Hearing set for Longwood Elementary School rezoning plan

Plan would lead to hundreds of students moving schools

WINTER SPRINGS, Fla. – A public hearing is set for Tuesday in Seminole County and it could have a big impact on students.

The School Board will hear public comments about a controversial plan to move hundreds of students to new schools.

The district plans to reopen Longwood Elementary School, which closed six years ago. The potential move would cause students from several other schools, including Highlands, Lake Mary, Keeth, Layer, Winter Springs and Woodlands elementary schools.

School district officials said the plan will help ease overcrowding.

Many parents have been fighting the plan, with some issuing a 15-page rebuttal to the school district.

Tuesday's meeting is set for 5:30 p.m.
