Woman, dog rescued in Merritt Island house fire, fire rescue says

MERRITT ISLAND, Fla. – A woman and her dog were rescued Friday morning after a house fire in Merritt Island, according to the Brevard County Fire and Rescue Department.

Crews responded to the fire on Lynne Drive around 7 a.m. and were able to put it out.

A Brevard County Sheriff's deputy rescued a woman from the home.

The woman was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation, Brevard County Fire and Rescue public information officer Don Walker said.

The dog was in poor condition given oxygen at the scene, Walker said.
