1 person dead, multiple injured in crash

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – One person is dead and multiple people were injured after a crash that led to one pickup truck catching fire, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The crash occurred around 2:40 p.m. Thursday at State Road 40 and State Road 11 in Volusia County.

Troopers said a Ford pickup truck hauling a boat trailer was heading west on State Road 40 as a Nissan pickup headed east.

The Ford suffered a tire tread separation to the left front tire. Troopers said the truck's driver lost control and traveled into the eastbound lanes.

Troopers said the Nissan then caught fire and its driver was unable to get out.

The driver of the Nissan was pronounced dead, troopers said. The driver of the Ford suffered serious injuries, and two passengers inside the Ford suffered minor injuries.

Charges were pending as the crash remains under investigation, according to the Florida Highway Patrol's report.
