Man dies while shielding wife from gunfire during Florida home invasion
Stepson, 18, also killed
WEIRSDALE, Fla. – A man and his stepson died Sunday after a home invasion in north Florida, authorities said.
Family members told the Ocala Star-Banner that Andy Fockler shielded his wife, Janey Fockler, as gunshots were fired Sunday morning at their home in Weirsdale, southeast of Ocala. Bailey Zylo, 18, was also killed.
Marion County sheriff's detectives were interviewing witnesses late Sunday. Capt. Dennis Joiner said investigators are still gathering facts to determine what happened. No arrests have been made.
Janey Fockler's father, John Zylo, told reporters the robbers demanded money, but only ended up taking a box of guns. He said the couple's teenage daughter and two small children were also in the home when the shooting occurred. Zylo said his grandson was sleeping when he was shot.
