25 acres burn in fire behind Kissimmee school

Residents in Temple Grove subdivision evacuated

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – Kissimmee fire, police and Osceola fire officials evacuated residents in the Temple Grove subdivision due to a brush fire behind Highlands Elementary School Sunday at 4:30 p.m.

Officials said the fire, which got within 15 feet of structures, burned a total of 25 acres.

Residents were allowed back in their homes Sunday night after the fire was extinguished.

Officials said the initial investigation revealed the fire was accidentally set by kids playing with a lighter, adding those those children and their parents will be attending Juvenile Fire Setters Program.

The fire did not affect the school, officials said.
