City of Port Orange celebrates 150 years

City founded in 1867

The city of Port Orange is celebrating 150 years since its founding by kicking off a yearlong celebration.

The city will kick off the 14th annual Freemanville Day on Tuesday at 4 p.m. at Mount Moriah Baptist Church, 945 Orange Ave., Port Orange.

Freemanville was established after the Civil War in 1866 and was the first African-American community in Volusia County.
