ORLANDO, Fla. – What started as a bar fight escalated into a shooting at a Wawa gas station near the University of Central Florida, the Orange County Sheriff's Office said.

Deputies said nine men were arguing in a parking lot outside Knight's Library bar around 2:12 a.m. Saturday, looking as if they were about to fight. An officer on scene separated the men. Three men, including David Alexander Vasquez Aviles, got into a white Volkswagen and the remaining men got into a black vehicle, deputies said.

One of the men in the black vehicle yelled, "Meet us at Wawa if you want to fight," according to the arrest affidavit. Deputies received a report of shots fired at the Wawa gas station at 11750 University Boulevard at 2:25 a.m. No one was shot in the incident.

The same Volkswagen involved in the earlier incident at Knight's Library was pulled over and deputies confirmed the driver, Aviles, was responsible for the shooting at Wawa, according to an arrest affidavit.

Deputies said Aviles was swaying back and forth as they were speaking to him. A gun and several empty beer cans were found inside Aviles' Volkswagen, the report said.

Aviles was taken to the Orange County Jail, but a nurse there said he needed to be medically cleared by a doctor before he could be booked because he had injuries from the fight. After he was medically cleared, he was charged with shooting from a vehicle within 1,000 feet of a person and using a firearm while under the influence of alcohol.
