Cocoa PD welcomes new K-9 unit

Meet Copper the dog

COCOA, Fla. – Welcome to the force, Copper!

The Cocoa Police Department just welcomed the black and tan coonhound, donated by Cynthia Drake Owens at Oak Hill Kennels, officers said in a post on their Facebook page.

Copper comes from Oxford, North Carolina.

The K-9 unit is about 4 months old, and currently in training for tracking. The department hopes to use the animal to find missing people and illegal drugs.

Copper will become a member of the community resource unit, where he can meet the people of Cocoa and visit the children in local schools.

“We are so happy to have him and can’t wait for everyone to meet him!” police said.
