Ocala man accused of shooting woman in neck, lying to detectives

Marion County sheriff: Green admitted to shooting victim, hiding gun

MARION OAKS, Fla. – An Ocala man was arrested Wednesday, accused of shooting a woman and telling detectives several false stories about what really happened, deputies said.

Christopher Allen Green, 18, ultimately confessed to shooting the victim in the neck and hiding a gun in his house before calling 911, according to a news release from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.

Green shot the woman about 9 a.m. Wednesday as the pair sat in a van parked on the lawn of Green’s home in Marion Oaks, at 3814 SW 143rd Lane Road, deputies said.

Green was the only person in the van with the victim, officials said, adding that the teen initially told deputies that the woman was shot by an unknown person from the road.

Forensic technicians analyzed the van and found the majority of the broken glass from the shattered window caused by the gunshot was located outside of the vehicle, according to the news release. This evidence would be consistent with a gun going off inside the van, rather than a bullet being shot from the road into the vehicle, officials said.

Green then changed his story and said he had a gun in the van and it discharged accidentally, injuring the woman, deputies said.

Green switched his story a third time when he came in for an interview. This time, he said he pointed the gun at the victim’s neck to scare her. Green believed the gun was unloaded and when he pulled the trigger, it went off, officials said.

The teen tried to help the woman; he fired the gun a second time to break the back window of the van -- in an effort to corroborate his original story -- and then hid the gun in his attic before investigators arrived, deputies said.

Green has been charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, dating violence, evidence tampering and making a false report of a commission of a crime, officials said.

He is being held at the Marion County Jail without the possibility to post bond. The woman is listed as stable at a hospital.
