Ocoee High School student slashes classmate with large knife, officials say

Principal calls fight 'isolated incident'

OCOEE, Fla. – An Ocoee High School student is accused of hiding a large knife on campus and then using it to slash a classmate during a confrontation in the boys' bathroom, according to Orange County Public Schools officials.

The student retrieved what officials called the "knife/machete" from a grassy area outdoors shortly before seventh period and then approached the other student in the bathroom. Officials said a physical altercation took place and the boy struck his classmate on the arm.

The victim suffered a superficial injury.

The student was arrested and will be up for expulsion. He faces charges of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and possessing a weapon on school property.

The knife was confiscated, officials said.

Principal Laura Beusse sent a call out to parents Monday afternoon.

"This was an isolated incident between two students. At no time was the safety on campus compromised," Beusse said.

She added that safety is a top priority at the school.
