Driver dies, 2 people hurt in head-on crash on U.S. 17, FHP says

Troopers investigate circumstances of Volusia County collision

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – Two vehicles were involved in a head-on crash Tuesday evening, killing one of the drivers and seriously injuring the other person behind the wheel, along with a passenger in one of the cars, police said.

The wreck took place at 7:20 p.m. on U.S. 17 near Dickey Lane, according to a news release from the Florida Highway Patrol.

Rosendo Miranda Escobedo, 29, was driving a Ford truck heading north on U.S. 17 when he left his lane of traffic and entered the southbound side of the road, police said.

The front of Escobedo’s truck slammed into the front of a Chevy, killing the Chevy driver, whose name hasn’t been released by troopers.

The Chevy driver also had a passenger at the time, who’s now listed in critical condition at Arnold Palmer Hospital. The driver died at the scene of the crash.

Escobedo suffered is in serious condition at Halifax Medical Center. He is from Pierson.

The FHP continues to investigate what led to the crash.
