Mother beaten with gun while trying to defend son, police say

Attackers still at large

ORLANDO, Fla. – A woman was hit in the head multiple times with a gun while trying to stop four men from attacking her son, according to the Orlando Police Department.

The son, 19, was walking around the Cinderlane Parkway apartment complex around 7 p.m. Monday when four young men approached him looking to buy marijuana, police said. The four people then started hitting the victim, pushed him to the ground and rummaged through his pockets, according to a news release.

The victim's mother saw the attack as she was walking her dog and yelled for the men to stop. As she got closer, she realized her son was being assaulted, so she pushed one of the attackers to get him to stop, police said.

That man used a gun, which may have been a BB gun, to hit the woman on the right side of her head, causing her to fall to the ground, according to a news release.

The men ran away, and the victim's son ran after them. The woman approached her building and saw the men hitting her son once again, and as she tried to stop them, the same man hit her with the gun three or four times in the head, the news release said.

A neighbor called 911, and the men ran away from the area.

A perimeter was set up and K-9 units searched but didn't find the culprits, who are possibly teens.

The 19-year-old victim was able to identify one of his attackers, but the identities of the three other men are unknown.

The woman was taken to Florida Hospital Orlando, police said.
