More than 30 car break-ins reported overnight on UCF campus

Break-in culprits crash stolen car, flee from scene

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – More than 30 cars were burglarized overnight Monday near the Lake Claire Apartments and three Greek houses near the University of Central Florida’s campus, university police said.

As of late Tuesday, the department said they have taken 36 reports at Lake Claire Community Office.

The Lake Claire Apartments are located on UCF’s campus between the Communication Building and Greek Park, according to UCF’s House and Residence Life website.

Students returned to class Monday after spring break last week.

Police said a good Samaritan alerted them around 2:50 a.m. as one of the cars was being burglarized.

Windows were shattered and items were stolen from vehicles, include three cars that were locked.

The culprits fled the scene in a car that was reported stolen in Orange County, authorities said. They crashed on Rouse Road and left the scene.

Police are still looking for the people believed to have broken into the cars. They believe that the tools used in the break-ins fit a description of other break-ins across Central Florida.

Police asked students, faculty and staff members to contact them with tips by calling 407-823-5555.
