Motorcyclist, 18, dies after striking pole in Ormond Beach, police say

Part of Ocean Shore Boulevard closes to replace pole, officials say

ORMOND BEACH, Fla. – The Ormond Beach Police Department is investigating a crash that left a motorcyclist dead Friday night, officers said.

Officers said the crash occurred on the 200 block of Ocean Shore Boulevard around 11:30 p.m., when 18-year-old Zachariah Warner, of Port Orange, was speeding and drove his motorcycle off the roadway, striking a telephone pole.

Volusia County deputies airlifted Warner to Halifax Hospital, where he later died of his injuries, police said.

Ormond Beach police said the road was closed Saturday morning as Florida Power and Light worked to replace the broken telephone pole.
