85 percent of 725-acre Marion County brush fire contained, officials say

Helicopter drops seven loads of water on fire Saturday

MARION COUNTY, Fla. – Crews have contained 85 percent of a 725-acre brush fire that broke out in Marion County, Fire Rescue personnel said.

Approximately 50 residents who were evacuated earlier in the day were let back in Friday night. Officials said some of them chose to evacuate Saturday while some stayed.

One unoccupied structure, an abandoned mobile home, was burned. Officials said a shed was also burned.

A helicopter with the Florida Forestry Service dropped seven loads of water on the fire Saturday, officials said.

Marion County Fire Rescue personnel added that it would be smoky in the area for a little while.
