Helicopter takes woman to hospital from Carnival Ecstacy

Victim, 71, suffered a head injury, Coast Guard says

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 71-year-old woman was airlifted from the Carnival Ecstacy on Friday, about 75 miles east of Daytona, according to the U.S. Coast Guard.

The woman had fallen and suffered an injury to her head, officials said in a news release.

A Coast Guard command center in Jacksonville was notified of the situation just after 1:10 p.m.

A MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter launched about 3:45 p.m., and the crew arrived to the ship just before 5:15 p.m.

The passenger, along with a nurse from the cruise ship, were taken to Shands Hospital in Gainesville.
