EDGEWATER, Fla. – Firefighters are watching a new brush fire that broke out early Wednesday morning in Edgewater.
The fire is burning close to several homes and a church near U.S. 1 and Roberts Road.
Firefighters and the Division of Forestry fought the fire for several hours and say for the moment it is under control.
Crews are expected to return later this morning to re-assess the situation.
The fire in Edgewater broke out hours after another brush fire damaged a nursery and prompted officials to close State Road 46 in Lake County, officials said.
S.R. 46 was closed Tuesday between County Road 435 and County Road 437 because of an 18-acre fire in Sorrento.
The road reopened before 4:45 p.m.
Fire officials said crews saved 12 homes.
"A strike team was deployed, along with (the Florida Forestry Service), who sent three tractors and a helicopter to battle the brush fire," Lake County fire officials said.
No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire is not known.
