Man found dead in DeLand identified

Paul 'Shorty' Wright's body found in dirt lot

DeLAND, Fla. – A man found dead Tuesday night in a dirt lot south of DeLand has been identified.

The Volusia County Sheriff's Office said Paul "Shorty" Wright, 41, was found dead near Parsons Avenue and Green Street.

Deputies said Wright's body showed signs of trauma, but his cause of death hasn’t been confirmed. The Sheriff’s Office is treating the investigation as a homicide.

An autopsy for Wright, who was homeless, is scheduled for Thursday, deputies said.

A 911 caller said she heard a gunshot and people screaming. She also said that she didn't see the shooting, but figured "something bad had happened."

No one is custody, and an investigation is continuing.
