Analysts calculate 5 worst jobs in America

Loggers, newspaper reporters included in list

Analysis companies Wall Street 247 and CareerCast calculated the numbers and came up with the top five worst jobs in America.

Newspaper reporter came in at first place, earning an annual median wage of $36,360 with a total employment number of 22,880 people.  The projected job growth for a newspaper reporter is at negative 9 percent from 2014 to 2024. Analysts said few other industries have been hurt as badly by the information age as the newspaper publishing industry.

A broadcaster, in second place on the list, earns an average income of $37,720. The total employment number is 37,230, but job growth is expected to decrease by 13 percent by 2024, according to analysts.  Analysts said the declining popularity of traditional media forms is partially to blame for the decrease. Broadcasters, especially those who cover politics, are facing more stress than ever, according to CareerCast.

Logger was voted the third worst job in America, with an annual median wage of $36,210. The current number of people employed in the field is 38,650, but job growth is expected to decrease by 4 percent by 2024. Increased automation and competition from foreign logging companies is to blame for the decrease in jobs, analysts said.

Enlisted military personnel ranked fourth on the list, with a total employment number of 1.3 million people. The annual median wage, despite the difficulties that the job brings, is $27,936 per year, $9,000 less than the $37,040 average for all U.S. occupations, analysts said.

Analysts ranked a pest control worker, with an annual median wage of $32,162, as the fifth worst job in the country. The total employment number is currently 72,830, but job growth is expected to decrease by 1 percent by 2024. Several factors contribute to the pest control worker’s ranking, including the fact that workers might have to contain dangerous animals while on the job. Other factors include working in small spaces and handling poisonous materials, analysts said.

Analysts also calculated the numbers to find the best jobs to have in America.
