Passenger killed in crash when driver runs red light, troopers say

Man killed, 4 injured in crash, FHP says

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a deadly crash at U.S. 92 and Tomoka Farms Road Friday in Volusia County.

Troopers said Bethany Lavallee, 23, of Orlando, was driving her Ford Focus west on U.S. 92 when she ran a red light at the intersection at Tomoka Farms Road and was struck by a Dodge pickup truck driven by John Dye, 84, of Mims.

The FHP said a passenger in Lavallee's car, Frankie Pena, 37, was killed in the crash. Lavallee and another passenger in her car, along with Dye and a passenger in his truck, all suffered minor injuries in the crash.

Troopers said charges are pending and the crash remains under investigation.
