Video: Man drives through Clermont with hood covering windshield

'I was shocked,' witness says

CLERMONT, Fla. – Video filmed in Clermont shows a man driving through the city with the hood of his SUV covering the windshield.

Clermont police said the driver told them that he had recently been involved in a crash and ever since, his hood wouldn't stay down so he would just look through a gap when driving.

Rocky Walsh said he filmed for at least a mile as the man drove down Highway 50.

"I saw him looking like an old lady, hovered up there, just looking through a small slit in the hood trying to make his way down Highway 50 for well over a mile, I saw him, when the police were after him," Walsh said.

Video shows an officer trying to get the driver's attention to pull him over. Walsh said his 15-year-old daughter was driving and he used the other driver as an example of what not to do on the road.

"I was shocked and I told her earlier, 'you have to be prepared on the road, you never know what you'll see,' but I never thought that would be what we were seeing," Walsh said.

Clermont police were eventually able to get the man's attention so they could pull him over. They said they secured his hood and issued him a citation for driving with an obstructed view.

Walsh said he hopes that driver learned his lesson and that others who see his video will be reminded of the importance of being safe while behind the wheel.

"I hope people learn some driver safety and you never know what you'll see and to just be prepared and if you have a problem with your car you should pull off to the side," Walsh said.
