Authorities investigate suspicious packages found at Clermont restaurant

Each package contained small alarm wrapped in tin foil, police say

CLERMONT, Fla. – Authorities investigated Saturday after a call was received about suspicious packages at a restaurant in Clermont.

The Lake County Sheriff's Office said the packages were found in the 2400 block of U.S. 27 in Clermont.

Clermont police officers arrived at the Clermont Landings Plaza around 5 p.m. Police said three packages were found between two cars.

Officers were able to hear an audible beeping sound coming from the packages, police said.

The Clermont Fire Department and the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad responded and assisted. Police said the bomb squad recovered the packages and detonated them.

It was determined that each package contained a small alarm that was wrapped in tin foil, police said.

Businesses in the plaza and surrounding area were notified. Police said there were no reported injuries.
