MARION COUNTY, Fla. – A man is in critical condition after a woman stabbed him to get him to stop arguing with her Friday evening, Marion County deputies said.

Deputies said Catherine Melvyn, 57, called 911 about a stabbing at the 19400 block of SE Highway 42. When deputies arrived, they found a man suffering from stab wounds.

Melvyn originally told deputies the victim stabbed himself while trying to take his own life, but later said she stabbed him to get him to stop arguing with her, according to the Sheriff's Office.

The man was taken to a nearby hospital for his injuries, where he remained in critical condition Saturday afternoon, deputies said.

Deputies said Melvyn was arrested and charged with attempted homicide. She is being held at the Marion County Jail on a $100,000 bail.
