Crash injures trooper, 2 others, troopers say

ORLANDO, Fla. – Three people were injured and a trooper's SUV was totaled in a three-vehicle crash in Orange County Monday afternoon, the Highway Patrol said.

A trooper was driving west on State Road 528 with his K-9 in the SUV when he saw a driver trying to make an illegal U-turn on the Beachline and attempted to pull the driver over, troopers said.

Troopers said the driver of a Mustang was behind the trooper and rear-ended him, causing the trooper to crash into the driver attempting to make the illegal turn.

The driver of the car the trooper was trying to pull over was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center as a trauma alert, troopers said, and the driver of the Mustang was taken to Florida Hospital East.

The trooper was taken to the hospital with minor injuries after his vehicle was totaled, the Highway Patrol said. His K-9 was properly secured in his cage in the backseat and was not injured, troopers said.

The driver of the Mustang and the driver the trooper was trying to pull over were both ticketed, troopers said.

Troopers said the left lanes of east and westbound traffic were blocked following the crash.
