Video shows men with T-shirts on heads breaking into church, police say

Duo accused of stealing electronics

LEESBURG, Fla. – Two men were caught on camera breaking into a Lake County church and stealing electronics while wearing T-shirts on their heads in an attempt to conceal their identities, the Leesburg Police Department said.

Surveillance video shows the men repeatedly pulling on the back door at First Baptist Church Wednesday around 3:45 a.m. until they're eventually able to force it open.

"One of our maintenance men came in early and found our back door shattered, ripped open. We watched the tapes and saw that two men this time had come in and ripped the door off," said First Baptist Church of Leesburg Worship Pastor Stephen Wolgamott.

An officer who watched surveillance video of the crime identified one of the men as Christopher Rosenmund, 25. He was arrested Monday at his home and charged with burglary and grand theft. Rosenmund was already on probation until December 2018 for grand theft and burglary, according to the arrest report.Police said that the men stole $1,300 in electronics from the church.

"I did get mad. And it wasn't really appropriate but I was just really angry because you just feel violated at that point," Wolgamott said.

Alex Upshaw, 27, was arrested Tuesday morning.

"You don't just go out to rob to rob there's an underlying reason behind it. They needed something so I would tell them that, hey, we have grace and we forgive you. Consequences still stand but we do hope they get the help they need," Wolgamott said.

Rosenmund was ordered held on no bond. Upshaw has a $7000 bond.
