9-year-old girl found dead in retention pond, police say

Police believe girl accidentally drowned

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – A 9-year-old girl who was believed to be missing was found dead in a retention pond Sunday morning, Kissimmee police said.

Officers said they were called to the Chelsea Square Apartments on Avon Boulevard about a missing girl with autism.

The girl was later found unresponsive in a retention pond inside the complex, police said. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said the investigation is ongoing, but officers believe she accidentally drowned.
