Motorcyclist killed in Volusia County crash, troopers say

Crash took place at SR 40, Byrd Road

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – A 62-year-old motorcyclist was killed in a Volusia County crash Sunday morning, Florida Highway Patrol troopers said.

Troopers said the crash involving the motorcyclist and a Chevy SUV took place at 8:10 a.m. at State Road 40 and Byrd Road.

Stanley Padgett, of Astor, was riding his motorcycle east on SR-40 behind the SUV when the driver of the SUV slowed down to turn left onto Byrd Road, troopers said. Padgett failed to slow down and hit the back of the SUV, according to the incident report. He was pronounced dead at the scene, troopers said.
