Man arrested in Sanford hit-and-run

William Carr, 28, bonded out of jail

SANFORD, Fla. – Sanford police have arrested a man Tuesday who they were searching for  in connection to a hit-and-run crash that happened Monday morning.

William Frank Carr, 28, was arrested after investigators said a woman was hit about 6 a.m. while she was walking on the side of 24th Street, east of Hartwell Avenue.

The victim, who memorized the license plate number on the Nissan Altima that hit her, said the driver tried to lift her up, but then went back to the car and drove off.

A woman named Jo-Nytranna Young posted to Sanford police's Facebook page Monday night, saying she was the woman who was hit by the car.

"Thank you for assisting me," she wrote. "I ask we bring him to justice. I'm very hurt and ask for prayers."

A picture was also posted showing Young with a swollen eye and blood on her face.

She told News 6 she can only see out of one eye, and she is having difficulty with her balance.

She wrote on her personal Facebook page that she had just dropped off her baby, and she was walking to the bus stop to go to work when she was hit.

Police said she gave them a Florida license plate number of BZC1169. They said that matched a maroon-colored 2017 Nissan Altima that belonged to Carr.

Police ask anyone with information about Carr to contact Sanford police.

News 6 looked at hit-and-run crash statistics in neighboring Orange County. Those numbers are embedded to the left of this story.
