UPS to add delivery surcharge during holiday season

Charges range from 27 cents to near $1

United Parcel Service is already getting a jump-start on the holiday season, and this year online shoppers should prepare for a surcharge.

To combat the influx of online order delivery costs, residential shipments during peak delivery periods in November and December will have a new fee. The charges, ranging from 27 cents to 97 cents per package, will apply to commercial UPS customers.

UPS has never before charged holiday season fees, and its rival, FedEx, currently does not have a holiday surcharge.
