Customer shoots diner at Denny's in Clermont, deputies say

Deputies: 2 customers involved in fight prior to shooting

CLERMONT, Fla. – A man was shot Sunday morning after arguing with another customer at a Denny's restaurant in Clermont, Lake County deputies said.

Deputies said a fight broke out between two customers inside the restaurant on Town Center Boulevard at 6:11 a.m. before they both went outside, where the man was shot.

It was not immediately known how many times the gun was fired, but deputies said the man was airlifted to a nearby hospital for emergency surgery, according to the Sheriff's Office.

The other customer involved in the fight fled the scene in an unknown direction, deputies said. The Sheriff's Office said they hope surveillance video will provide more information about that customer.

A man who was staying at a nearby resort told News 6 he heard the gun shots.

"I think in my hopes that it wasn't, I just blew it off. But when I saw all this cornered off as we were leaving, I said, 'Honey, that's the gunfire I heard,'" Dave Solis said.

Deputies said the incident remains under investigation.
