2 killed in head-on crash in Brevard, troopers say

FHP investigates double-fatal wreck


MALABAR, Fla. – A 28-year-old Melbourne man and a 23-year-old Orlando woman were killed Friday in a head-on crash in Brevard County, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The crash happened around 2:30 a.m. at Malabar and Weber roads.

Troopers identified the victims as Ariel Arriera and Zoe Barbee.

According to the FHP, a 2001 Jeep driven by Tanasia Shelton, 21, of Orlando, was going west on Malabar Road. Arriera was driving a two-door Honda east on Malabar Road when Shelton traveled into the eastbound lanes and struck his car, troopers said.

Both vehicles caught fire after the crash.

Arriera died at the scene, troopers said. Barbee, who was in the Jeep, was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center and later died, the FHP said.

Shelton suffered serious injuries, troopers said.

Charges are pending and the crash remains under investigation.
