TITUSVILLE, Fla. – Police in Titusville are searching for a gunman who they said shot a Chinese restaurant worker during an armed robbery.
The victim was taken to Holmes Regional Medical Center in serious condition, Titusville police said.
Police told News 6 Thursday afternoon the victim's condition upgraded to serious but stable.
Late Thursday morning, Titusville police released surveillance video from inside the restaurant that shows the man entering the business with his gun drawn.
According to police, the man threatened the worker while taking money from a cash register. The gunman shot the worker before leaving the restaurant, police said.
"There wasn't a struggle. Obviously, there was some aggravation from the suspect and he shot the counter attendant," said Amy Matthews with Titusville police.
The assailant was last seen running east on Harrison Street.
The culprit was described as a black man, about 6 feet tall with a slender build. He was wearing a black handkerchief embossed with a white skull around his face. He was also wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, khaki pants, black shoes and a black knit cap.
"This is really disappointing. The crime is really getting bad in this area," resident and China 1 customer Mike Vaf told News 6.
Vaf said he was sad to learn the restaurant was closed Thursday following the shooting.
"They're very friendly and the food is good," Vaf said. "He's doing his job. That's unfortunate for someone to walk in and do something like this."
"We're treating this very seriously," Matthews said. "This is an armed robbery seriously injuring someone and we are looking to get this guy off the street as soon as possible."
Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the Titusville Police Department at 321-264-7800 or Crimeline at 800-423-TIPS.
