9-vehicle crash kills 1, injures 10 in Marion County, officials say

Gasoline spills from vehicles during crash, fire rescue says

MARION COUNTY, Fla. – One person was killed and at least 10 others were injured Friday night in a crash involving at least nine vehicles on Interstate 75 in Marion County, officials said.

Marion County Fire Rescue personnel said four tractor-trailers and six other vehicles traveling south on I-75 near mile marker 338 were involved in the pileup just before midnight.

Firefighters said they had to remove two people from a semitruck that was wedged in between two other trucks. Crews said some of the 10 people injured in the crash were airlifted to nearby hospitals to be treated and four people were being considered trauma alerts.

Officials have not yet identified the victim who died in the crash.

Hazmat crews worked to contain diesel fuel and gasoline that spilled from some of the vehicles during the crash, fire officials said.

I-75 south was shut down in the area following the crash, officials said.

The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the crash, Fire Rescue officials said.
