FHP: Woman fleeing traffic stop in DeLand struck by patrol cruiser

Victim's father faces DUI charges

DeLAND, Fla. – A woman was airlifted to a hospital early Saturday morning after getting hit by a Florida Highway Patrol cruiser during a traffic stop in Volusia County, troopers say. 

The FHP said around 1 a.m. a trooper measured the speed of a Ford Mustang going 71 mph in a 45 mph zone near the intersection of Lake Charles and Kepler roads in DeLand.

During the traffic stop, troopers said the passenger, Amy Kuehn, fled from the Mustang and was struck by a patrol cruiser that was arriving to the scene, authorities said.

Kuehn was taken to the hospital. Her condition has not been released.

Troopers later arrested the driver, Aaron Kuehn, who is the father of the injured passenger. He faces charges of suspicion of DUI and was booked at the Volusia County jail. 

No other details have been released.

The crash remains under investigation.
