All southbound lanes of I-95 closed at MM 269, U.S.-1
ORMOND BEACH, Fla. – A 21-year-old woman was killed and another woman was seriously injured Sunday morning after they were hit by a wrong-way driver in Volusia County, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
Troopers said Alex Jamison, 28, of Simpsonville, South Carolina, was driving north in the southbound lanes of I-95 near mile marker 269 in Ormond Beach just before 2 a.m. when he struck a Toyota Prius head-on.
Jamison's truck flipped after the initial crash, but troopers said he was able to get out of it on his own. He was taken to Halifax Medical Center with minor injuries, troopers said.
The driver of the Prius, 29-year-old Maria Stengel, of Boca Raton, was taken to Halifax Medical Center for her injuries, troopers said. Her passenger, Jennifer Otto, of Pompano Beach, was pronounced dead at the scene, the Highway Patrol said.
All southbound lanes of I-95 were closed at mile marker 273 and U.S.-1 after the crash, the FHP said.
Troopers said charges against Jamison are pending and the crash remains under investigation.
