Walmart rolls out fruit punch-flavored pickles

Walmart is rolling out a new product at select stores that you'll likely either love or hate: fruit punch-soaked pickles.

Jars of the sweet and salty concoction, dubbed Tropickles, are being added to shelves at 1,400 locations, according to the retail giant. They're going for $2 a piece.

While it might seem like a novel idea, soaking pickles in a sugary mixture is nothing new. The trend stretches back at least a decade, particularly in the South where people use Kool-Aid instead, The New York Times reports. Walmart even acknowledged that the recipe was cribbed from social media.

"The modern-day couple, the pickle and fruit punch met on social media (they bonded over recipes on Pinterest, to be exact); now, we are celebrating their union on Walmart store shelves," the company said in a statement.

Still, time will tell whether Tropickles are here to stay. The product didn't receive the warmest welcome on social media. Many users reacted with a mixture of doubt and disgust.
