2 injured in Altamonte Springs house fire

Police officer suffers cuts while helping victim

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. – Two people, including a police officer, were injured early Friday in a house fire in Altamonte Springs, officials said.

The fire was reported just at 2:30 a.m. at a home on Meadowlark Drive.

When authorities arrived two people made it out of the home and told police a third person was still inside. An Altamonte Springs officer broke a window to try to get the man out of the burning home.

Seminole County firefighters arrived and pulled the man out of the home. Officials said the victim suffered smoke inhalation and Seminole County fire crews started life-saving measures before he was taken to Florida Hospital Altamonte.

An Altamonte Springs police officer suffered cuts while helping the victims, officials said. A member of the Longwood Fire Department was also taken to South Seminole Hospital for treatment.

The third victim and the officer were taken to a hospital but are expected to be OK, fire officials said.

The house sustained extensive damage in the kitchen and throughout the entire home. Fire officials said there were no working smoke alarms in the home.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
