Pilot safe after seaplane found on Lake Apopka, fire rescue says

Officials: Pilot called airport in distress half-hour before plane found

APOPKA, Fla. – A pilot was reported safe when a seaplane was found on an Orange County lake Saturday afternoon, county Fire Rescue officials said.

Fire Rescue personnel said the plane was found just before 11:50 a.m. on south Lake Apopka, about 30 minutes after Apopka airport officials said the pilot called in distress.

The pilot made it to shore and was picked up by someone, officials said. Fire Rescue officials said the pilot did not need medical attention.

The Environmental Protection Agency and Federal Aviation Administration were notified of the incident.
