Teacher among 14 men arrested in Lake County cyber sex sting
Men accused of trying to meet minor for sex
LAKE COUNTY, Fla. – A week-long cyber sex sting resulted in the arrests of 14 men, including an Orange County teacher, accused of trying to meet who they thought was a teenager for sex, according to the Lake County Sheriff's Office.
Detectives from the Sheriff's Office cyber crimes unit posed online as 13-, 14- or 15-year-old children as part of operation Treasure Florida's Kids II.
Deputies said all but one of the men they communicated with online traveled to the region with the intent of having sex with the child. Some of them brought prophylactics and alcoholic beverages, authorities said.
One man who did not travel to the area was arrested at his home after soliciting the undercover detective, according to a news release.
Among the 14 men arrested was Jason Sellards, 48, who told deputies that he teaches language arts to eighth-grade students in Orange County, according to the arrest report.
Deputies said Sellards had sexual conversations with a detective posing as a 15-year-old boy online. He told the boy he was 27 years old, and the two agreed to meet on Sunday so they could have oral sex, the arrest report said.
After his arrest, Sellards admitted to wanting to meet for sex, but said he didn't know the person he was talking to claimed to be 15 years old, according to authorities.
An official from Orange County Public Schools said Sellards taught English at Wolf Lake Middle School in Apopka last year, but was not scheduled to return this upcoming school year because he asked to be transferred to Apopka Middle School.
"The kids that he teaches were about the same age as the kids he reached out to, or the undercover deputy posing around that same age, so there will be further investigation to make sure there are no other victims," Sgt. Fred Jones of the Lake County Sheriff's Office said.
Another man who was arrested, Matthew Kinney, 23, spoke to two different detectives online who were posing as 14-year-old girls, the arrest report said. He repeatedly asked if the girl was a virgin then agreed to meet up with her on Sunday, according to the affidavit.
Kinney was a cook at Universal Orlando Resort, but officials from the theme park said he no longer works there.
The 12 other men who were arrested are: Bernard Baden, Charles Morgan II, Stacey Ely, Jamie Ziegler, John Wright, Joshua Acevedo, Juan Estrada, Kenneth Fuller, Samuel Fontanez, Singillyon Burgess, Christian Aviles-Rivera and Habib Sebaiha.
The men were booked into the Lake County Jail on sex-related charges.
