YouTube video helps deputies ID shooting suspect who wore flamingo shirt

Woman shot in thigh during nightclub shooting, deputies say

Shantonio Kemp

ORMOND BEACH, Fla. – A YouTube video showing patrons partying and dancing at a nightclub in Ormond Beach helped deputies identify a man who they say was responsible for a shooting that same night, according to the Volusia County Sheriff's Office.

Around 2 a.m. July 22, a 24-year-old woman was shot in the left thigh during a shooting in the parking lot of CoCo's Night Club, the news release said.

Deputies said they initially had difficulty tracking down witnesses who would cooperate but eventually learned that the alleged shooter was wearing a flamingo shirt.

A YouTube video titled "Project X / Veezy Birthday Bash | Team Turn Up Ent" uploaded a day after the shooting showed club goers dancing, flashing cash and smoking marijuana.

Also featured in the video was a man wearing a flamingo shirt. He appears nearly five minutes into the video, holding up his middle fingers at the camera and blowing smoke.

A detective used screenshots from that video to distribute to law enforcement officials in an attempt to identify the man, a news release said.

Authorities identified that man as Shantonio Kemp, 25, and arrested him in Putnam County.

He's currently in the Volusia County Jail on a charge of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
