ORLANDO, Fla. – A court hearing was continued Wednesday for a man charged with manslaughter in the death of a 15-year-old girl whose body was dumped along an Orange County road.
The next hearing for Ramsys Cruz Abreu is now scheduled for September.
Cruz Abreu, 23, was charged in April in the shooting death of Melanie Medina.
Orange County sheriff's deputies said Cruz Abreu, Medina and another girl were riding in a car when a gun being held by the other teen accidentally discharged, striking Medina. The other girl is not facing charges.
Prosecutors said Cruz Abreu gave the girl the gun and tried to cover up Medina's death by dumping her body.
Abreu, who was released from jail in June after posting bond, also faces charges of failure to report a death, interfering with a body and tampering with evidence.
A trial date has not been set.
