Body of missing boater found in Lake Fairview in Orlando

Man's name has not been released

ORLANDO, Fla. – The body of a missing boater has been recovered from an Orlando lake, deputies said on Friday.

The name of the 41-year-old man has not been released.

Orange County sheriff's deputies were called to Lake Fairview early Thursday morning after receiving a report about a person yelling for help in the middle of the lake, near the 4000 block of Edgewater Drive.

Aviation units located a capsized canoe in the lake and a man in distress nearby. The 48-year-old man was rescued and taken to Florida Hospital South in stable condition.

The victim said his friend also went into the water when the boat capsized, but he lost track of him.

Crews searched the lake Thursday and later found the man's body.

Orange County Deputy Ingrid Tejada-Monforte said the incident serves as a stark reminder for boaters to always use caution and wear life vests.
