Man shot in face at DeLand home, police say

21-year-old taken to hospital

DeLAND, Fla. – A man was shot in the face late Sunday in a DeLand neighborhood, police said.

The shooting was reported at 11:20 p.m. at a home on Franklin Avenue.

Travis Hill, 20, told police he was with Khalia Dorns, 21, sitting on the front porch of the home when they noticed a vehicle passing by and stood up to see who it was. The car then stopped at stop sign and a man got out and fired seven or eight shots at the men, according to the police report.

Dorns was shot in the face and Hill suffered an injury to his shoulder during the incident. Dorns was airlifted to Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach. He has since been released from the hospital.

No arrests have been made.

Police have not said what led to the shooting. Both men said they did not know who the shooter was or why he would open fire, the report said.
