Police say man was not actually shot

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – A man who was high on drugs and had been combative with strangers claimed that he was shot near the Daytona Beach City Hall building Wednesday afternoon, according to Daytona Beach Police Chief Craig Capri.

Officials from the Daytona Beach Fire Department initially told News 6 that someone had been shot, but Capri clarified and said the man was not actually suffering from a gunshot wound.

The man was walking around Daytona Beach being combative with strangers then walked into an apartment complex on South Palmetto Avenue and threatened the manager, who then kicked him out, according to authorities.

"He in turn runs down here about a block away at the City Hall and says that he's been shot. He has not been shot. We have a simple battery case here and some trespassing," Capri said.

Officials said the incident occurred around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.

An ambulance transported the man from the scene. Police did not provide information on what kind of drugs the man had reportedly been using or if he suffered any injuries.
