Suspect charged with battery on a person 65 or older

OKEECHOBEE, Fla. – A man from The Villages is accused of grabbing two of his neighbors by the neck after an argument the trio had on a cruise spilled over onto dry land, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Douglas Jensen, 62, was arrested Tuesday morning in connection with the Nov. 23 incident.

Troopers said Jensen took a cruise with a group of 33 of his neighbors that departed from Fort Lauderdale. After the cruise, as the group was driving back, they stopped for lunch at the Fort Drum Service Plaza.

During that lunch stop, Jensen approached a husband and wife he had been arguing with on the cruise, "walked up behind them and grabbed them by the backs of their necks, which caused injury to both of them," according to the report.

Troopers said an arrest warrant was issued after video evidence was reviewed.

Jensen is charged with two counts of battery on a person 65 or older. He's being held at the Sumter County Jail on $20,000 bond.
