Man, 55, dies when truck slams into van in Volusia County, troopers say

FHP: Driver of van had hazard lights activated

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – A 55-year-old man was killed early Saturday in a Volusia County crash, Florida Highway Patrol troopers said.

Troopers said the driver of a pickup truck was driving west behind the man's van on U.S. 92 near Clark Bay Road around 3:30 a.m. when the man turned on the van's hazard lights while preparing to pull over onto the right shoulder.

The truck driver did not slow down and crashed into the back of the van, troopers said.

The man driving the van died at the scene, and at least one of his passengers was taken to Halifax Medical Center, the FHP said.

Troopers said the crash is still being investigated and charges against the pickup driver are pending.
