Suspect flees with money, deputies say

WEST MELBOURNE, Fla. – Police are asking for help identifying a man who robbed a West Melbourne Subway restaurant Wednesday evening.

Surveillance video released by West Melbourne police showed a man enter the restaurant in the Metro West Shopping Center between 8 p.m. and 8:05 p.m. before showing a gun to the employee, according to police.

***PRESS RELEASE*** ARMED ROBBERY West Melbourne Police are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying a man who robbed the Subway restaurant located at 3048 West New Haven Avenue in West Melbourne. The robbery occurred at the restaurant located in the Metro West Shopping Center on Wednesday evening, September 20, 2017 between 8:00 pm and 8:05 pm. The suspect approached the Subway employee, placed a firearm on the counter, covered it with a shirt, and demanded all of the money from the cash register. When the Subway employee complied with the suspect’s request, the suspect left the store with an undisclosed amount of money. The employee was not injured. The robbery suspect was described as a Hispanic male in his mid to late 30’s with a thin mustache, 6’ tall, and 200 lbs. He was wearing a gray shirt, tan cargo shorts, and a black baseball cap at the time of the robbery. Officers said the man laid the gun on the counter before covering it with a shirt and and demanding money from the register.

The suspect, who police described as a Hispanic male in his mid- to late 30s, fled with the money, officers said. The employee was not injured during the robbery.

Authorities said the man was 6 feet tall, weighed 200 pounds and had a thin mustache. He was wearing a gray shirt, tan cargo shorts and a black baseball cap.

Anyone with information on the suspect is asked to call the West Melbourne Police Department at 321-723-9673. Officers said anyone whose information leads to an arrest may be eligible for a reward.
