Apopka carjacking suspect faces new charges in Eustis

EUSTIS, Fla. – The man who Apopka police said carjacked a woman and led them on a police chase faces new charges Tuesday by another agency.

Apopka Police Chief Michael McKinley said the suspect, Cedrick Gant, 27, approached the victim at 9:20 a.m. near her home in the Arbor Ridge Subdivision on Lester Road and stole her vehicle.

After leading police on a chase and abandoning the stolen vehicle, Gant was arrested.

On Tuesday officials with the Eustis Police Department said they were able to link Grant to a similar incident in their jurisdiction which happened an hour before the carjacking in Apopka.

Eustis police obtained a new warrant for Gant Tuesday and both agencies are working together, police said.

Gant was taken to an area hospital to be treated for his injuries before being taken to the Orange County Jail. He is charged with armed carjacking, robbery with a firearm, burglary, fleeing and eluding. Police did not say what new charges will be added for the Eustis incident.
