More than 24,000 people have been evacuated in central Ukraine after a military ammunition depot exploded late Tuesday, according to The Associated Press and Reuters.

Massive explosions and fire have been reported at the site. The airspace over the region has been closed, officials told AP. One person was injured.

The blasts occurred at a military base near Kalynivka in the Vynnytsya region, 270 kilometers (168 miles) west of Kiev.

The Ukrainian prime minister hinted it was possible sabotage by Ukraine's enemies, according to the AP.

Local media reported that about 188,000 tons of munitions were kept at the depot.

The Ukraine has been fighting Russia-backed separatists since April 2014.
