Man shot in downtown Orlando parking garage, police say

Shooter at large

ORLANDO, Fla. – A man was shot early Thursday morning in the elevator of the 55 West Church St. parking garage downtown, Orlando police said.

Bike patrol units said they heard gunshots at 2:21 a.m. in the area of West Pine Street, they then saw a vehicle drive out of the parking garage and crash near 76 W. Pine Street, police said. The driver of the vehicle had a gunshot wound to his upper torso and was transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center.

Police determined the shooting happened in the elevator of 55 West Church Street.

The shooter, described as a black male wearing dark clothing, was last seen by security officers and has not been captured, police said.

K-9 units performed a search of the parking garage and did not find the gunman.

Richard Wolk, who lives at 55 West, said he first heard about the shooting from his uncle.

"I had a text from my uncle this morning waking up," Wolk said. "Just making sure me and my little Chihuahua were doing alright."

Wolk said he was a little confused by the incident and wanted everyone to be OK.

"Crime can happen anywhere," he said. "You just gotta be safe and always aware of your sourroundings."

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
